Miss Webster and Chérif by Patricia Duncker What the group thought: Miss Webster is a sardonic Miss Marple like figure, while Chérif is presented as the exotic Arab. The ending felt somewhat unbelievable. We wondered whether the author was playing with us and our prejudices by creating suspense around Chérif’s intentions. Miss Webster’s trust in Chérif never faltered; this was an admirable strength, given the circumstances.
