Bookclub Review

Ghost Rider by Ismail Kadare was unanimously agreed upon as an excellent book group choice, largely because of its unfamiliar author and unusual premise. Reactions within the group, however, were sharply divided. Members from Eastern Europe strongly embraced the novel, praising its authenticity and its fidelity to small-town mythology and cultural memory. Other members were more dismissive and cynical, finding the story challenging or opaque.
For readers seeking something different—particularly a ghost story that operates symbolically, drawing on dark-age mythology and folklore—Ghost Rider is a compelling and thought-provoking choice.
