Bookclub Review

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides was thoroughly enjoyed by the group. The novel features well-developed, likeable characters who retain their distinct personalities throughout the book’s complex and far-reaching sequence of events. Eugenides skillfully weaves together family history, identity, and cultural change, creating a story that feels both ambitious and deeply personal. Despite tackling serious themes, the novel is often warm and humorous, with several genuine “laugh-out-loud” moments. The Stephanides family home, in particular, stood out to us as a vivid and memorable setting that many of us felt would be fascinating to visit. Overall, Middlesex is a compelling and rewarding read that sparked thoughtful discussion within the group.
