Bookclub Review

We loved this book. It sparked a lot of admiration for the author, with comments like “an extraordinary writer,” “brilliant,” “wonderfully naïve,” and “funny” coming up again and again.

Some scenes felt exaggerated and even a little unbelievable, but that was easily forgiven because the story itself was so engaging and spectacular. The novel has a strong sense of place, and readers do benefit from an understanding of British culture, particularly references to Brixton in the UK.

If you enjoy the arts, theatre, and culture, this is a book you will thoroughly enjoy. We finished the discussion in great spirits, with a very happy book group leaving the shop.
