This is the story of Daisy, a fifteen-year-old who travels to England to live with her cousins. While there, she begins a love affair with her cousin Edmond. Their lives are dramatically changed when war breaks out and England becomes an occupied state.
At first, the children are self-sufficient and largely untouched by the horrors around them. However, as the story develops, echoes of World War II begin to overshadow their lives. They are forced to face separation, deprivation, and ultimately, loss.
Daisy speaks in a believable and compelling voice that draws you into her soul and makes you feel everything she experiences. This one is highly recommended.
