An Honorable Man by Gillian Slovo

This historical novel is quite straightforward, with a surprising and unexpected twist at the end. The first fifty or so pages were a struggle to get through, giving the impression that the author was still warming up; however, once the story took off, it became far more engaging.

The wife’s character came across as irritating and somewhat lost, yet the overall narrative remained believable and realistic. The central discussion was wrapped up rather quickly, but the novel still delivered a coherent and satisfying experience.

We rated the book 3 out of 5, concluding that this is a nice book.
