Small Island by Andrea Levy
Our book group thoroughly enjoyed Small Island. It is beautifully written and a compelling page-turner.
At times the novel is genuinely hilarious, while at other moments it becomes deeply serious, addressing complex and important issues with great sensitivity and skill.
Levy vividly captures the Jamaican voice and cultural nuances, bringing authenticity and warmth to the story. The characters are well-defined, believable, and richly developed. We all found ourselves sympathising deeply with Hortense and her struggles.
This is a powerful, engaging novel that would be suitable for a wide range of readers.
