Bookclub Review

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk is written in sharp, accessible prose, but beneath the simple sentences lies a complex and unsettling message.

The novel strips away the veneer of modern consumer culture, presenting a disturbing portrait of young, virile men grappling with identity, frustration, and testosterone in a mail order IKEA world.

The characters rebel against the constraints of a bloodless, middle class ideology, pushing their disillusionment to violent extremes.

The ending surprised everyone in the group, as no one had predicted it, and its absurd twist left a lasting impression.

Overall, the book group rated the novel 4 out of 5.
